Bello Zon® Chlorine Dioxide Plants

ProMinent Bello Zon® - plants afford reliable and maintenance-reduced production and metering of chlorine dioxide under highest safety standards. Optimally tuned systems for water disinfection can thus be designed with DULCOMETER® /DULCOTEST® and the corresponding measuring and control technology.

Chlorine dioxide is an extremely reactive gas that - being unstable and not storable - must be generated in on-site generating plants. Chlorine dioxide offers - compared to the mainly used Chlorine - a large range of advantages for the disinfection of drinking and process waters.

Advantages of Chlorine Dioxide

  • No retrogressive disinfection capacity at increasing pH values as this is the case with Chlorine, but rather slightly increases.
  • Chlorine dioxide keeps long-time stability in the pipeline and ensures microbiological protection of the water for many hours or even days.
  • Its extraordinary disinfection capacity helps to even decompose biofilms in pipelines and tanks and, contrary to Chlorine - thus protects entire watersystems from getting infected by legionella.
  • Ammonia or Ammonium that have the effect of extreme Chlorine attrition, are not attacked by Chlorine Dioxide, so that the Chlorine dioxide dosed can thus equally be used for sterilization.
  • Chlorophenol, odour-intensive combinations that may arise during the chloration of water are not generated with Chlorine dioxide.
  • Trihalomethanes (THMs), a substance class, that - as its principal substance chloroform - is suspected to be carcinogen, arise when Chlorine reacts with natural water contents (humic acids, fulvin acids, etc). With Chlorine dioxide as alternative for disinfection only  drastically minor concentrations are measured - if any at all.

Disinfection Capacity

Disinfection with Chlorine dioxide (0.3 mg/l)
(approved by the independant German Authority LGA)
E. Coli pectinatus lactic acid bacteria
wild yeast pediococci

Application Areas

  • Public drinking water supply
  • Combat of legionella in warm water systems
  • Bottle rinsing
  • CIP plant as disinfection method
  • Pasteurizing and rinsing
  • Cold sterile bottling
  • Condensate water treatment in the milk industry
  • Wash water treatment for use with fruit, vegetables, seafood, fish and poultry
  • Cooling water treatment
  • In the pulp industry for combating slime and for process water treatment
  • Effluent water treatment

Plant Features

  • BelloZon® Chlorine dioxide generating and dosing plants work in accordance with the Chlorite/Acid procedure.
Here a Chlorine dioxide solution free of Chlorine is generated with the reaction of sodium chlorite with hydrochloric acid.
  • Excellent efficiency: decades of experience with BelloZon® Chlorine dioxide plants have shown that an extraordinary yield of 90 to 95 % is achieved with the process parameters chosen (with reference to stoichiometric ratios)
  • Dosing: is effected quantity-dependently, i.e. flow-based to the signal of an inductive or contact flow meter or parallely to a dosing pump. In circulation systems, where a Chlorine dioxide loss has only to be replaced, dosing is also effected in dependence to the measuring value via a Chlorine dioxide or Redox potential measurement.
  • Optimal adjustment to your requirements through two plant types: BelloZon® CDV (diluted chemicals) and BelloZon® CDK (concentrated chemicals).

BelloZon® CDV Plants

  • Are designed for diluted chemicals, i.e. with BelloZon® Acid (hydrochloric acid 9%) and with BelloZon® chlorite (sodium chlorite 7.5%).
  • With each of the two solutions ca. 40 g Chlorine dioxide is generated in the plant.

BelloZon® CDK Plants

  • Are designed for the commercially available Chemicals Hypochlorite acid according to the German norm DIN EN 939, ca. 30 to 33% and sodium chlorite according to DIN EN 938, ca. 25%. Here, one litre of each chemical generate ca. 150 g Chlorine dioxide.
  • In order to ensure safets during generation, CDK plants are equipped with a third pump, that doses diluting water into the reactor.
  • Operating costs are below those of CDV plants thanks to the use of concentrated chemicals.

Support

As with each disinfection technology, with Chlorine dioxide, too, disturbing water contents and the entire water treatment procedure are to be respected. ProMinent has made experience with thousands of Chlorine dioxide installations - worldwide and in various application areas and is most willing to grant assistance with the design.
