Design
A swimming pool consists of a water circuit with a „basin, where the swimming pleasure takes place”, a filter that keeps solids back and a disinfection step, where germs, viruses and other unwanted particles are “nipped in the bud”. From the engineering side, a hot tub, a bubbling container and/or an integrated whirlpool can enrich the swimming pool experience. As a further enlargement of the bathing fun, a counter current flow, a water slide, a splash shower and “hot tub area” can make your swimming pool an adventure world. However, these also increase the demands on the water treatment system.
Filtration
In the private area, water quality is increased with adequate filters, through which the swimming pool water is circulated fast enough with an appropriate filter pump. The designer of the swimming pool water treatment facilities will do his best to move germs from the bathing area into the water treatment station. Viruses, germs, dandruffs and other refuses are much better removed to the filter or the disinfection areas! Mechanical water treatment, however, will never be sufficient on its own to maintain high swimming pool water quality.
pH Value Correction and Control of the Disinfectant Dosing
The pH value and the concentration of the disinfectant in the swimming pool water are important parameters.
The pH value influences not only the feeling on the skin but also directly influences the efficiency of the disinfectant and - if necessary - the flocculant. The pH value should be maintained between 7.0 and 7.2. This requires permanent monitoring. Thanks to the combination of measurement, control and metering with peristaltic or diaphragm pumps by ProMinent, this value can be permanently maintained.
pH value control is effected by means of a pH electrode, a measurement transducer and a respective chemical-resistant metering pump. ProMinent supplies all of these from one source. All products are developed and produced by ProMinent! Thus, interfaces are no obstacle and support is no problem but rather a platform for dialogues with the customer! A correct pH value is also necessary to protect the value of the building and the technical equipment in use. The foil quickly arrives to bleach out (pH-value 2) or the heat exchanger is corroded. Under-running of the pH value can quickly result in elution of the groove material! These “expensive accidents” can be excluded when all products have been chosen perfectly.
For disinfection of swimming pool water, Chlorine-containing or Chlorine-free products are used. As a possible measurement method with Chlorine-free products, the Redox-value has proven best for the determination of the “disinfection force”. A “mV-signal”, that is to be ranged between 700 and 770 mV depending on the swimming pool water quality, helps to determine the required quantity of disinfectants for the swimming pool water. If this requested value is not present, it will be automatically re-adjusted, eliminating obstacles to bathing fun. This “Redox regulation” consists of electrode, measurement transducer and an appropriate metering pump. Here, the same is valid as for the regulation of the pH value “all is supplied from one hand”.
With Chlorine-containing disinfectants for swimming pool water treatment, the Chlorine concentration can be measured directly, thanks to Chlorine measurement. The concentration is indicated directly online. Thus, the motto “less is more” is once again validated. Thanks to exact measurement, the concentration is kept as low as possible, but high enough, to control the dangers. “Chlorine control” consists of an electrode, a measurement transducer and a metering pump. Chlorine Electrolysis
The use of a “Chlorine Electrolysis Plant” is one interesting method of disinfection of swimming pool water. These plants produce the necessary “Hypochlorous acid” (the disinfectant) on the spot. The disinfection force of Hypochlorous acid is 1.2 times stronger than of commercially available Sodium Hypochlorite. Additionally, this sour product has the ability to decrease the pH value, this being desirable in most cases, due to high pH values of the filling/ potable water. Thus, the use of acids for decreasing the pH value is reduced or even made redundant! Unwanted salts or brines are thus not carried into the swimming pool. Neither does the solution produced lose its disinfection force, as this can be generated as required and directly dosed into the swimming pool water system. As no handling with chemicals is required, the risk of mixing up acid and brine is almost completely excluded! This is a conception that includes many advantages and makes your bathing fun an untroubled adventure.
UV-Light and Ozone
As a supplement to conventional disinfection of swimming pool water, there are disinfection and oxidation steps available using UV light and Ozone. Both UV and Ozone plants can deal with difficult basic conditions and can reduce the use of Sodium Hypochlorite in swimming pool water to a minimum. The use of additional treatment steps helps to reduce reaction by-products. The set values of the disinfection product can thus be minimized, unpleasant odor or the creation of trihalomethanes can be avoided, increasing bathing pleasure.
UV plants can be retrofitted at any time. They are integrated in the pipelines and require space. There are no resistance problems. When using ProMinent Ozone plants, the success will be even higher. The oxidation force of Ozone is sufficient for the entire spectrum of water contents and, in combination with activated carbon, produces end results for the highest demands!
Flocculation
As a means of support for swimming pool water treatment, flocculant dosing may be an important further treatment step in the swimming pool area. Flocculants are needed to render non-filterable particles filterable! With minute electric potentials, non-filterable particles accumulate and so-called macro-flocs are generated. These can withdraw the unwanted particles from the water circuit. For private pools, the problems are often minimal and these flocculant dosing stations are not always used.
