For chlorine-based disinfection methods, the chlorine concentration is often adjusted to values between 0.4 and 0.6 mg/l. The chemicals used are calcium hypochlorite, sodium hypochlorite and. For public swimming pools also chlorine gas is also used.
Complimenting conventional disinfection of swimming pool water with chlorine, disinfection or oxidation steps with Ultraviolet light and Ozone are also available. Both UV plants and Ozone plants can handle difficult conditions and/or reduce the use of sodium hypochlorite for disinfection of swimming pool water to a minimum.
