CLP Regulation

The CLP Regulation aims to ensure a high degree of protection for human health and the environment as well as the free movement of goods within the internal joint European traffic of chemical substances, mixtures and certain specific products.

Aims of the CLP Regulation

The CLP Regulation is based on what is known as the Globally Harmonised System (GHS) of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals of the United Nations (UN). This globally harmonised system aims to make the level of protection for human health and the environment more uniform, more transparent and more comparable. The CLP Regulation is gradually superseding the former Dangerous Substances Directive 67/548/EEC and the Dangerous Preparations Directive 1999/45/EC from 1 June 2015. Even before 1 June 2015, mixtures can be classified, labelled and packaged in accordance with the requirements of the CLP Regulation. If this is done, the requirements of the Dangerous Preparations Directive do not apply.
